Workshop: CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT TIPS AND TECHNIQUES

“Making your annual CBC experience even better”

Tubac: Friday, 6 December 2019

Phoenix: Saturday, 7 December 2019

OVERVIEW:

Ever wonder why certain Christmas Bird Count (CBC) teams consistently report not only more individuals, but significantly more species than your team does? Why, at the compilation dinner, these teams frequently call out multiple species that no other team detected that day, including several rarities? Maybe they have better or more diverse habitats in their section, or a couple of hotshot birders on the team….or, just maybe…they have a few “tricks” up their sleeves!

This workshop will provide participants with numerous techniques, tips and suggestions to help make your next CBC (and general birding) experience the best it can be. Adding even a few of these to your annual CBC outing will enhance your team’s outcome with an increase in both species and numbers – making the count more accurate, more useful, and hopefully more fun!

WHAT TO EXPECT:

The morning workshop is 3-4 hours long with approximately an hour of classroom-based presentation and then we will hit the field. Once in the field the presenter will go into more detail and provide first-hand experiences that will assist you in finding, “attracting,” and counting more birds.

Please be sure to bring: layered clothing, comfortable shoes, paper and pen for taking notes, plus drinks and snacks as needed.

FEES AND REGISTRATION:

Tubac workshop presented by Jennie MacFarland, jmacfarland AT tucsonaudubon.org. Please register here.

Phoenix workshop presented by Troy Corman, aplomado02 AT gmail.com. Please register here.

The workshop is FREE, so if you would like to learn from a CBC veteran, please contact the presenter and register at one of the links noted above. To keep the field part of the workshop from getting too overwhelming, there is a 25 participant limit...so please register early!
