Arizona Breeding Bird Atlas
(1993-2000)
After eight years of data collection by 700+ surveyors and more than four years of manuscript preparation, the Arizona Breeding Bird Atlas book has finally gone to Press. It is expected to be available in late June or July 2005. This large publication (650+ pages) includes 270 two-page species accounts containing color photos of the species, along with range maps and habitat and breeding phenology graphs created from data many of you helped collect. Shorter accounts discuss another 38 species that nest locally, irregularly, or have historically bred in
Arizona
. Additional chapters describe atlas methods, results, and

ornithological history, as well as topography, climate, and habitat diversity, which ultimately govern bird species distribution in the state. Bird populations change constantly due to environmental factors and human activities and the data compiled in this book will serve as a baseline against which to help evaluate future changes. It also provides a wealth of natural history information.
