Hooded Warbler (Wilsonia citrina), Tucson, Pima County

This Hooded Warbler was discovered by Mark Stevenson and Molly Pollock at the Roger Road Sewage Treatment Plant on 19 May 2009 and was photographed by Andrew Core the same day.

Casual to rare mostly spring transient and summer visitor.  A former review species, reports have increased over the last few years and there are now multiple reports every year.

Adult males like this are stunning and unmistakable.  Curiously the Hooded Warbler that was seen at Rio Salado a few years ago also lost its tail all at once.  Whether this is due to accident or is the normal way Hooded Warblers molt their tails is unknown.
