Semipalmated Sandpiper (Calidris pusilla), Gilbert Water Ranch, Maricopa County

This Semipalmated Sandpiper was discovered by Michael Moore and Dave Pearson on Pond 6 at the Gilbert Water Ranch on 09 May 2009.  It was photographed by Michael Moore and Brendon Grice the same day. 

Casual spring migrant in Maricopa County, less rare in fall.

Note black legs, short squared off bill and grayish-brown plumage with no rusty tones.  Compare to Western Sandpiper in last image on right.
