Berylline Hummingbird (Amazilia beryllina), Miller Canyon, Cochise County

This Berylline Hummingbird was discovered by Dave Pearson at the Beatty's feeders in Miller Canyon on 27 May 2009 and photographed by Gary Broussard on 28 May 2009 and by Chris West on 30 May 2009.

Berylline is a rare summer visitor to the Sky Islands of SE Arizona.  It has nested and appears to be increasingly regular.

Combination of green body, gray belly and rufous wing patch unique.  This appears to be an immature female because of the gray belly and mottled throat.  The rufous appearance of the belly in the third photo is probably due to reflection of light off the red feeder.
