Broad-billed Hummingbird (Cynanthus latirostris), Baseline and Meridian Wildlife Area, Phoenix, Maricopa County

This Broad-billed Hummingbird was discovered and photographed by Tommy DeBardeleben on 09 July 2009 at the Baseline and Meridian Wildlife Area. The bird was first drinking water that overflowed on a paved road that runs through the wildlife area. It then went and sat on a tree for a few minutes.

Broad-billed Hummingbird is casual in Maricopa County, especially during summer, but this is the second individual documented this summer in the county.

Note red bill and pale eysestripe.
