Flame-colored Tanager (Piranga bidentata), Cave Creek Canyon, Chiricahua Mountains, Cochise County

Two female or immature male Flame-colored Tanagers were discovered by Rick Taylor on 21 June 2009 at the Southwest Research Station on 21 June 2009 and he photographed one of them on 27 June 2009.

Casual in the Chiricahua, Huachuca and Santa Rita Mountains.  The first state record of this species came from Cave Creek Canyon in 1985.  Since then there have only been two additional records from the Chiricahuas.

Dark bill and auriculars, streaked back, heavy white spots on the wings, dull rump.
