Hooded Warbler (Wilsonia citrina), Elden Spring, Coconino County

This species is a rare migrant in northern Arizona. This Hooded Warbler was first discovered by Jason Wilder and Zack Zdinak on 23 August 2009 at Elden Spring on the east edge of Flagstaff. It was photographed by Eric Hough on 01 September 2009.

Casual to rare mostly spring transient and summer visitor. A former review species, reports have increased over the last few years and there are now multiple reports every year. 2009 has seen an especially large number of reports.

The bird is a well-marked adult female, with black on the cap extending down the side of the neck behind the auriculars. It consistently flicked/fanned its white outer tail feathers.
