Lucifer Hummingbird (Calothorax lucifer), Willow Canyon, Santa Catalinas , Pima County

This female Lucifer Hummingbird was discovered Moez Ali  and Jacob Faust on 29 July 2009 coming to a cabin feeder in Willow Canyon at 7000 feet in pine forest on Mt. Lemmon.  It was photographed by Jacob at the same time.

Away from the one regular location in Ash Canyon, Lucifer Hummingbird is a casual summer visitor to the borderlands mountains of SE Arizona .  However, this bird is both far north of and at much higher elevation than most previous records.   It is possibly the most northerly record for the state and the first for the Catalinas.   If anyone knows of any previous records for the Catalinas or any records further north, please email the photoeditor.
