Worm-eating Warbler (Helmitheros vermivorum), Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area, Cochise County

This Worm-eating Warbler was discovered and photographed at Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area near McNeal, Cochise Co., on 06 October 2009 by Dave Stejskal.

Worm-eating Warbler is a casual to very rare migrant in the state, and an accidental winter visitor. Most of the records of this very distinctive warbler come from the spring months, but the state usually averages about 1-2 birds now in the fall among the 3-5 birds that it averages for the year.

The striking buff and black head stripes make this warbler easy to identify.
