Northern Shrike (Lanius excubitor), Mormon Lake overlook, Coconino County

This Northern Shrike was discovered and photographed by Eric Hough on 15 November 2009.

Rare in region, especially this far south. Presumably this same individual has been wintering around the overlook for at least the last three years.

Thin black mask, long hooked bill, long body, and pale gray faintly-barred chest are all indicative of this species.
