Ruddy Ground-Dove (Columbina talpacoti), Granite Reef Recreation Area, Maricopa County

This Ruddy Ground-Dove was discovered by Sandy Hornbaker and photographed by Jay Miller on 29 November 2009.

Rare and irregular as far north as Maricopa County, usually in winter, often associating with Inca Doves.  So far, there have been a large number of reports for this winter.  Some winters they are absent.

No scaling of plumage, rufous in color with gray head, spots on wing reaching up onto shoulder (scapulars).
