Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena), Lake Pleasant, Yavapai CountyThis Red-necked Grebe was
discovered and photographed by Troy Corman on 15 January 2010. Red-necked Grebe is a casual winter visitor to Arizona, particularly away from the lower Colorado River. Apparently fewer than a dozen state records. However, there has been a slight increase in records the past few years. Overall a fairly large, stocky grebe. Bill yellowish, fairly heavy and straight; grayish brown neck with dirty white throat color extending crescent-like to the back side of head.
