Yellow Grosbeak (Pheucticus chrysopeplus), Stateline road east of Portal - 2 miles North of Portal road, Cochise County

This Yellow Grosbeak was discovered and photographed by Melvin Moe on 05 June 2010.  The photos were actually taken in in Melvin's backyard in New Mexico, which is 150 feet east of the New Mexico - Arizona border.  However, after the photos were taken the bird flew across the border fence into Arizona and flew into a neighbors tree grove in Arizona.

Yellow Grosbeak is a casual summer visitor to SE Arizona with around 20 records, most of those in June.  It is a frequent "one day wonder" and rarely remains in the same area for long.

Bright yellow body, black and white wings and huge bill make male Yellow Grosbeaks nearly unmistakable.
