Hybrid Anna's X Costa's Hummingbird (Calypte anna X Calypte costae), Ash Canyon B&B, Huachuca Mountains, Cochise County

This hybrid Anna's X Costa's Hummingbird was discovered and photographed by Charles Melton on 08 August 2010.

Hummingbirds tend to hybridize more often than many other birds and this hybrid, between birds in the same genus, is one of the more frequently found.  Note the intermediate color of the throat and crown feathers and the intermediate tail length.
