Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor), Goodyear, Gila River at Bullard Avenue, El Rio Research area, Maricopa County

This Tricolored Heron was discovered and photographed by Stig Tjotta on 14 August 2010.  The bird was on a sand bank in the pond in the El Rio research area across from Estrella Mountain Park where Bullard Avenue crosses the Gila River.

Casual visitor, most often in the summer. 

Contrast between dark breast and white belly unique in all plumages.
