Lucifer Hummingbird (Calothorax lucifer), Private yard, upper Banning Creek, Mule Mountains, Cochise County

This female Lucifer Hummingbird was discovered by Ken Lamberton at his backyard feeders on 27 September 2010 and was photographed by him the next day.  It was joined by a second female on 01 October 2010.  This is the first Lucifer Hummingbird at this location in the two years Ken has lived there.

Lucifer Hummingbird is a casual summer visitor in Arizona away from mid-elevation canyons on the eastern flank of the Huachuca Mountains.  It is normally present from late March to late October.

Long, decurved bill. Buffy breast with buffy eyeline and dark ear patch.
