Lucifer Hummingbird (Calothorax lucifer), San Pedro House, Cochise County

These photos of a Lucifer Hummingbird were taken by Sue Elwell at the San Pedro House within the San Pedro RNCA west of Sierra Vista on 26 October 2010.

Lucifer Hummingbirds are decidedly rare away from mountain canyons in the Chiricahua and Huachuca Moutains and the Sonoita area. According to the 1999 "Annotated Checklist to the Birds of the Upper San Pedro River Valley, AZ" there were at that time no documented records of Lucifer Hummingbird in the San Pedro RNCA.
