Streak-backed Orioles (Icterus pustulatus), northeast of Wellton, Yuma County

NOTICE: These birds are on private property and birders are no longer welcome.  This appears to be because the property owners have simply become weary of all the birders (over 200 so far) in their backyard, not because of any specific bad behavior.

One Streak-backed Oriole was discovered on 27 November 2010 by Paul Lehman and two were seen together on 28 November 2010 by Henry Detwiler.  They were photographed by Andrew Core on 08 December 2010.  The first two pictures are of one bird and the last two are of the other.

Streak-backed Oriole occurs less than annually in southern Arizona and once in northern Arizona. Nests have been discovered near Dudleyville and Marana.

Note the streaked back, broad based bill with a relatively straight upper mandible and bright orange malar.
