Brant (Branta bernicla), Rotary park, Lake Havasu City, Mohave County

This Brant was discovered and photographed by David Vander Pluym on 13 April 2011.

Brant is usually strictly coastal and confined to salt water. It is very rare in Arizona with only 13 previous documented reports. From 2000-2009, it was only reported in the state twice.  However, this is the fourth documented report to AZFO since 2010.

White neck marking is diagnostic. The amount of white on the neck as well as the black on the underparts indicate this is a "Black" Brant.
