Northern Shoveler, leucistic (Anas clypeata), Aguirre Lake, Buenos Aires NWR, Pima County

This Northern Shoveler, leucistic was photographed by Bonnie Swarbrick on 18 April 2011 at Aguirre Lake on Buenos Aires NWR which is 38 miles south of Three Points on Hwy 286, 1 mile north of headquarters visitor center.  Bonnie writes:  "The white duck was reported by a visitor and I checked it out this afternoon. The bird was with other shovelers, acting like a shoveler, usually dabbling in the shallow water. It posed alertly upon my return with a camera, so I was able to get a good view of the bill. It is unmistakably a shoveler, with the massive bill. It was pure white, except for a bright reddish-orange bill! Legs were orange also. Primary tips seemed a bit dusky. Eyes were dark."
