Baltimore X Bullock's Oriole hybrid (Icterus galbula X I. bullockii), Quailway Cottage, Portal Cochise County

This Baltimore X Bullock's Oriole hybrid was discovered and photographed by John Yerger on 26 May 2011.

Both pure and hybrid Baltimore Orioles are considered casual spring transients in southeast Arizona. Most records of Baltimore Oriole (and hybrids) come from the Portal area.

Plumage mostly indicates second year (SY) Bullock's Oriole, beginning to replace orange feathers in crown, nape and back with black feathers. Face pattern is intermediate with much black in the cheeks and the portion of the malar closest to the bill, pointing to some Baltimore Oriole parentage. Not visible in the photos but visible in the field was the somewhat intermediate tail pattern.
