Mourning Warbler (Oporornis philadelphia), Empire Gulch, Pima County

This Mourning Warbler was discovered by Bill Adler and photographed by Gary Rosenberg on 01 June 2011.

There are seven previous Arizona records.  The only previous physical documentation for the state was a specimen collected from Pipe Springs National Monument in 1974.  This the first Mourning Warbler to be photographically documented in the state.

Compared to the more common MacGillivray's Warbler, note the lack of white eye arcs, less black in the lores, and black breast patch - all diagnostic for a male Mourning Warbler
