This Short-tailed Hawk was photographed by Mark Sharon on 16 July 2011.

Short-tailed Hawk has been expanding its range northward and increasing in Arizona for the last several years.  It has been reported a couple of times previously in the Santa Catalina Mountains.  It has bred in the Chiricahuas.  Other northerly records in the state include one on Pinal Mountain and one that has wintered for several years in Tucson.
