Purple Gallinule (Porphyrio martinica), Maricopa agricultural fields, Pinal County

This Purple Gallinule was discovered and photographed by Nancy Lange on 18 September 2011.

There are 13 previous accepted records for Arizona.  Remarkably, this is the fourth documented report this year.

Unmistakable, purple and green colored plumage, tricolored bill and shield, white undertail coverts, big yellow legs and feet.
