Black-throated Blue Warbler (Dendroica caerulescens), Santa Cruz River at Clark Crossing Road, Santa Cruz County

This Black-throated Blue Warbler was discovered by Jim Karp and photographed by Chris McCreedy on 11 November 2011. Also photographed by Alan Schmierer 11 November 2011.

Casual transient and occasional winter visitor.

White spot on primaries, greenish-yellow back, some black visible in primary coverts, distinctive white supercilium and curling white or pale yellow crescent under olive/yellow cheek. Yellow flanks, white undertail coverts, somewhat large-billed for its size. Wilson's Warbler-ish call notes.
