Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), Lower River Road Ponds, Palo Verde, Maricopa County

This second year Herring Gull was discovered by Melanie Herring on 28 October 2011 and photographed the same day by Tommy DeBardeleben.

Note the pale gray back, brownish-gray wings, pale eyes, and pale bill with a black tip.

Rare, but probably annual, in the lower Colorado River Valley. Very rare in the rest of the state.
