Horned Grebe (Podiceps auritus), Glendale Recharge Ponds, Maricopa County

This Horned Grebe was discovered by Kurt and Cindy Radamaker on 29 October 2011 and photographed by Jeff Ritz on 03 November 2011.

A rare transient and winter visitor, with numbers increasing in recent years.

Note the square head shape, thick neck, and bright white face below the black crown.
