Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena), Davis Dam, Lake Mohave, Mohave County

This Red-necked Grebe was discovered and photographed by Lauren Harter on 11 November 2011

This grebe is considered primarily a casual fall and winter visitor in Arizona with most records from the larger reservoirs along the Colorado River. However in recent years one or more have been found annually in the state.

Long yellow bill, dark cap contrasting with whitish cheeks, and reddish neck are all distinctive features.
