Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps
grisegena), Wahweap Marina, Lake Powell, Coconino
County
This juvenile Red-necked Grebe was discovered by Shaun Putz on 29
October 2011 and photographed by Jim Logan on 30 October
2011.
This grebe is considered primarily a casual fall and winter visitor
in Arizona with most records from the larger reservoirs
along the Colorado River. However in recent years one or
more have been found annually in the state.
Overall a
fairly large, stocky grebe. Dark streaks on side of head
indicate a juvenile. Bill yellowish, fairly heavy and
straight; reddish brown on side of neck with white
throat color extending to the back side of head. 30 October 2011, photos by Jim Logan All photos are copyrighted© by photographer |
