Varied Thrush (Ixoreus naevius), Parker Canyon, Cochise County

This Varied Thrush was discovered and photographed by Vernie Aikins on 14 October 2011.

Although considered a casual migrant and winter visitor through much of the state, at least a few Varied Thrushes have been reported annually in recent years.

Easily distinguished from similar sized American and Rufous-backed Robins by the grayish breast band that separates the pale orange throat and upper breast  and similar colored lower breast. This species also often has a longer neck appearance which can be seen in the photo.
