Pacific Wren (Troglodytes pacificus), Lower Camp Creek, Maricopa CountyThis Pacific Wren was discovered and photographed by Tommy DeBardeleben at Lower Camp Creek. Rare but annual in Arizona, which this species breeds locally in canyons near the Mogollon Rim. Usually several birds are present during the winter. Tiny size, short tail, supercillum, barring on the flanks separate this as a Pacific/Winter Wren species from other Wrens. This bird's dark color points to Pacific Wren. The bird was also giving it's distinctive call notes similiar to a Wilson's Warbler. 21 November 2011, photo by Tommy DeBardeleben All photos are copyrighted© by photographer |
