Mallard X Gadwall Hybrid ("Brewer's Duck") (Anas platyrhyncos X A. strepera), Sweetwater Wetlands, Pima County

This "Brewer's Duck" (Mallard x Gadwall hybrid) was discovered by Chris Benesh on 29 November 2011 and photographed by Andrew Core on 14 December 2011.

Brewer's Duck is a Mallard x Gadwall hybrid named by Audubon as a new species, though he had suspicions even then it might be a hybrid between Mallard and Gadwall, both of which it resembles. See his description and painting here.
