Fulvous Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna bicolor), San Ignacio Golf Course, Pima County
These Fulvous Whistling-Ducks were photographed by Chuck Trible on 03 December 2005.
Three separate flights circled and landed on the pond on hole #6 at the San Ignacio Golf Course.
There were between 12-18 birds total.
The most recent ABC report states: "After a relative hiatus of
reports through the 1980s and 1990s, numbers of this species appear to be on the
increase during the early 2000s. The relatively large number of individuals
found in the state in late 2005 corresponds with a similar influx of this
species at the Salton Sea in southern California at that same time, where
numbers Fulvous Whistling-Ducks have trended down in recent decades. " Buffy overall color and prominent white streaks on flanks.
