Long-tailed Jaeger (Stercorarius longicaudus), Lake Havasu, Mohave County

This Long-tailed Jaeger was discovered by Lauren Harter on 14 September 2011 and photographed by David Vander Pluym on 14 and 15 September 2011.

The first two photos are from the 14th and the 2nd two are from Sept 15th. Finally getting this in. Lauren Harter also submitted photos from a couple days before these, but I think they were lost in the fray.

Although there are only 12 previous records for the state, it is the most frequent of the three jaegers in Arizona.

Juvenile jaeger with long central tail feather projection, strongly barred upper and under tail coverts, all of the underwing is strongly barred and contrasts with the flanks, pale head, and whitish fringes to the upperparts. Note also the structure, the tublular body/head.
