Rusty Blackbird (Euphagus carolinus), Anthem Community Park, Maricopa County

This Rusty Blackbird was discovered and photographed by Pierre Deviche on 14 December 2011.

There are 23 previous records, but only 6 since 1990 when Rusty Blackbird began experiencing a precipitous population decline. 

Typical blackbird shape and size. Striking pale eye. Thin dark bill. Pale eyebrow and dark cheek patch. Overall dark with rusty color feathers on head and back. Tertials and coverts have clearly (and characteristically) rusty edges.
