Red-breasted Sapsucker (Sphyrapicus ruber), Bill Williams River NWR, La Paz County

This Red-breasted Sapsucker was discovered and photographed by John West on 05 January 2012.

Rare but increasingly regular winter visitor to Arizona.

Extensive red head and no black breast band, which would otherwise indicate a hybrid with Red-naped Sapsucker.
