McCown's Longspur (Calcarius mccownii), Lake Cochise, Willcox, Cochise CountyThis McCown's Longspur was
discovered and photographed by Tom Johnson on 29 February 2012.
Formerly regular in small numbers in the Sulfur Springs
and San Rafael Valleys of SE Arizona, this species
appears to have decreased in recent years. This individual was a single male, seen with >200 Chestnut-collared Longspurs. It has a black chest bar and a stouter
pink bill, and also shows obviously rusty median coverts.
