Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula), Cameron, Coconino County

This Common Grackle was discovered and photographed by Jason Wilder on 16 May 2012.

There are 19 accepted records for the state with several more pending. This species has been expanding in New Mexico and may be expected to occur more often in Arizona in the future. In fact, this bird is the second found in Coconino County in the space of a week.

Note the contrast of the dark, glossy purplish head and bronze colored body and the large bill.
