Prothonotary Warbler (Protonotaria citrea), Cottonwood Pond, Sweetwater Wetlands, Pima County

This Prothonotary Warbler was discovered on a Tucson Audubon Society Field trip led by Sara Pike and Matt Brooks on 22 May 2012 around "Cottonwood Pond" on the west side of the wetlands..  It was photographed at the same time by Tom Lawler

Prothonotary Warbler is a rare but annual transient in the state.

Note the bright yellow head and body, prominent black eye and bill and the white undertail coverts and large tail spots.
