Prairie Warbler (Setophaga discolor), Sabino Creek below Sabino Dam, Pima County

This Prairie Warbler was first found by Will Russell along Sabino Creek below Sabino Dam in north east Tucson on the morning of 29 May 2012.  It was photographed and recorded the same day by Dave Stejskal.

Prairie Warbler is one of the rarest of the eastern vagrant warblers in Arizona, with only 14 previous records, mostly in late fall and during the winter months. There are only two prior spring reports of this species in the state (St. David on 8 May, 2000, and Madera Canyon on 21 May, 2003).

Unique face pattern, rusty streaks on back, black streaks confined to sides of yellow breast.
