Rufous-backed Robin (Turdus rufopalliatus), Brown Canyon Ranch Pond, Cochise County

This Rufous-backed Robin was discovered and photographed by Nathan Kohler on 06 May 2012.

Regular fall and winter visitor to southern Arizona with several usually reported every year.  However, it is casual anytime after early April.

Robin sized bird with rufous back and wing coverts. Rufous on the breast and flanks. White undertail extending to a point at the lower breast. Outer half of wings and tail gray. Head gray with dingy white throat. Few, if any, dark streaks on the throat - possibly an immature bird. Bill yellow-orange with a reddish colored eye - no white around the eye. No vocalizations heard.
