White-eared Hummingbird (Hylocharis leucotis), Chuparosa B & B , Madera Canyon, Santa Cruz County

This White-eared Hummingbird was discovered by Luis Calvo and photographed by Gwen Starrett on 07 May 2012

The bird is visiting multiple feeders and the blooming Golden Columbine that is native to the Snta Rita Mountains, so she has a good amount of pollen on her forehead. There is guest only parking at the Chuparosa. Public parking is about 100 yards up canyon at the Mt. Wrightson Picnic Area. Visiting birders are welcome, but must respect our guests privacy. Please check in with staff when you arrive.

White-eared Hummingbird is a rare summer resident in the mountains of Southeastern Arizona.

The extremely prominent, bright white eyebrow of both sexes of the White-eared Hummingbird is unmistakable.
