Plain-capped Starthroat (Heliomaster constantii), Lower Ash Canyon, Hereford, Cochise County

This Plain-capped Starthroat has been present in Robert Behrstock's back yard in Lower Ash Canyon since at least 13 May 2012.  It was photographed on 04 July 2012.  It usually perches high in oak trees and only rarely comes to feeders.

Rare summer visitor. Annual for the last 6 years.  About 20 records total.  Most records of Plain-capped Starthroat in Arizona come from the numerous feeding stations at middle elevations in the southeast region of the state, and most have occurred from late June through September.

Large size, long dark bill, pale eye line/lower portion of face/sides of dark chin, white rump, long wings, tail lacks extensive white tips, loud chipping call
