Lucifer Hummingbird (Calothorax lucifer), Madera Canyon, Santa Cruz County

This female Lucifer Hummingbird was found and photographed by Laurens Halsey at Madera Kubo in Madera Canyon on 08 September 2012.

This species is considered accidental in Madera Canyon with very few documented sightings. It is rare everywhere in AZ away from the east slope of the Huachuca Mountains where it is a regular summer visitor.

Curved bill and dark auricular patch surrounded by buff. Overall buff underneath. Short wings and long tail.
