Short-tailed Hawk (Buteo brachyurus), Barfoot Park in the Chiricahua Mountains, Cochise County

This Short-tailed Hawk was discovered by photographed by Eric and Abby Billings on 08 July 2012 and photographed by Abby Billings at the same time.  An immature Short-tailed Hawk was also photographed at this location on 22 August 2012 by Matt Victoria.  This is presumably the same individual. 

Short-tailed Hawk has been expanding its range northward and increasing in Arizona for the last several years.  Tt has bred in the Chiricahuas at Barfoot Park in the past. 

White underparts, including throat.  Barred tail indicates an immature.
