Solitary Sandpiper (Tringa solitaria), Sweetwater Wetlands, Tucson, Pima County, AZ, Pima County

This Solitary Sandpiper was discovered and photographed by Michael Skinner on 29 October 2012.  Perhaps the same individual who wintered in 2011/12.

Solitary Sandpiper is accidental in SE Arizona after very early October.

Slender sandpiper, smaller than Yellowlegs. Thin Straight bill. Bobbed head when excited. Very obvious white eye ring/spectacles. Dark plumage with white spots. Dark olive legs. Called Peet-weet when agitated.
