Varied Thrush (Ixoreus naevius), Granite Basin Lake, Yavapai County

This Varied Thrush was found on 19 October 2012 by Eric Moore and others at Granite Basin Lake in the Prescott National Forest. It was photographed by Bryan Patrick on 21 October 2012

The species is listed as 'casual' in Winter in Birds of Prescott, AZ by Carl Tomoff.  Rare migrant and winter visitor through much of the state, at least a few Varied Thrushes have been reported annually in recent years.

Unmistakable.  Eyeline, breast band, wing pattern separate from all superficially similar species.
