Lapland Longspur (Calcarius lapponicus), Mohave Valley, Mohave County

This Lapland Longspur was photographed by David Vander Pluym on 25 January 2013

One of at least 3 Lapland Longspurs discovered by Lauren Harter and David Vander Pluym on 20 January 2013 and photogarphed by David Vander Pluym on 25 January.  Found near the intersection of Vander Slice and Courtwright in the southern Mohave Valley. Also note the McCown's on the right side in the second photo a different bird than either of the two already submitted from this location.  This location has proven excellent for Longspurs and hosted Lapland Longspur in Nov 2011

Rare but perhaps increasing with a number of recent records.  Still fewer than 20 records for the state.

Dark frame on auriculars, rusty secondary coverts, white belly, pink bill.
