Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus), AMNH Southwest Research Station, Chiricahua Mountains, Cochise County

This adult, dark morph Broad-winged Hawk was discovered and photographed by David Griffin on 20 April 2013.

Casual spring migrant, perhaps increasing throughout the western US. 

Broad black and white tail bars, with broader last white bar. Pale flight feathers with dark border.
